Add these multi-day bike trips to your to-ride list

Looking for a new bike adventure? These are some of the longer bike rides I’ve enjoyed. Credit-card touring, no camping required! While there are plenty of tour operators out there, these are easy to plan for those willing to pack light and carry their own gear.

The Ohio to Erie Trail, a 326-mile trail that five of us biked from Cleveland to Cincinnati in June 2024. Day 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

The Erie Canal from Buffalo to Albany (but take a day for Buffalo!). It’s also part of the Empire State Trail. Four of us biked all 360 miles in 2022. Day 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

The Empire State Trail from Albany to New York City, which two of us biked in 2021. Day 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

The 160-mile Delaware & Lehigh Trail in Pennsylvania. Check the website for any closures; we’ve had to do it in parts. Among the adventures: Princeton to New Hope and the trail to Bethlehem and back, and basing ourselves just south of Jim Thorpe for two days of riding.

A 2-day ride from Philadelphia to Reading and back on the Schuylkill River Trail.

A U.S.-Canadian loop in Vermont and Quebec: Day 1, 2-4, 5.

2 days biking the entire Virginia Capital Trail (both ways)

In Canada

The P’tit Train du Nord, a 120-mile trail north of Montreal. Day 1, 2, 3.

A 400-mile loop from the outskirts of Montreal to Quebec City along the St. Lawrence River and returning via Magog, using the Route Verte. Day 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.

In Italy

The Adige bike path from the Austrian border to Verona, which we biked in 2023. Day 1, 2, 3, 4.

In France

Montpellier to Narbonne on Eurovelo 8. Days 1, 2, 3.

5 days of biking along and near the Loire River/Eurovelo 6 — but based in Tours.
