Great swoops! The WB&A Trail bridge over the Patuxent River is finally open — and we found some surprises

Here’s what the trail straddling two counties is like.

One 180-degree turn, then another. That next one — a third, or just a squiggle?

My second Troll Trek: 7 trolls and 1 slice of pie

Another day hunting for trolls in Burlington County, New Jersey.

Another sunny, unseasonably warm day, so a good time to hunt for more of those trolls in Burlington County. This is a cool art project using recycled materials that was inspired by Danish artist Thomas Danbo’s Big Rusty, who moved into the county several years ago.

Delaware River Heritage Trail: 16 miles from Burlington to Bordentown

I hadn’t ridden between Burlington and Bordentown in a long time. Had the route improved? And how many warehouses would I find?

The view from the northern end of the trail between Roebling and the end of Crystal Lake Park.

The Delaware River Heritage Trail is a developing loop on the New Jersey and Pennsylvania sides of the Delaware River. I hadn’t been on the stretch between Bordentown and Burlington in a while. Plus New Jersey Transit is free this week. Two good reasons to check it out again!

We biked this trail in New Hampshire ahead of the official ribbon-cutting

Seven miles of the New Hampshire Seabrook Trail are built.

Our bike ride. Apologies for the uneven line.

I’ve been following the progress of a trail in New Hampshire that will one day practically go border to border, from Massachusetts to Maine. And now 7 miles or so of are done and ready for the big ribbon-cutting in September.

Only we were headed to Maine in August. So why wait?

Biking Connecticut from New Haven to Massachusetts — the state’s trails are tops

I’ve been raving about the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail since 2016. It’s gotten even better since then.

Made it to Massachusetts!

This past weekend I biked Connecticut from south to north, from New Haven across the state line to Southwick, Mass., as I took part in the East Coast Greenway‘s Ride the State ride.

Good news: Another gap on the D&L Trail disappears

This is so much better than hauling your bike up stairs or cutting through a hotel parking lot to reach the D&L Trail.

When I first discovered the section of Pennsylvania’s D&L Trail that goes south to Bristol, the route would almost dead-end at an auto-repair shop in Morrisville. You had to creep around the side, then dash across Bridge Street/Lincoln Highway and finally haul your bike down a flight of stairs to reconnect with the canal towpath.

On the way back it was even worse, because you’d have to push your bike up those stairs.

Day 4 of biking from Philadelphia to DC: A 14-mile finale on stunning trails

Trails leaving Baltimore, then 14 miles of trail from Greenbelt to Nationals Park.

It’s the last day of our bike adventure from Philadelphia to Washington D.C.

The newest part of Philadelphia’s K&T Trail has stunning river views

You’re right by the Delaware River, and I mean right next to the water. Ducks, maybe some boaters, the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge.

Ribbon-cutting day on the K&T.

A new section of the K&T Trail just opened in Philadelphia. It’s only 0.6 miles long so you might think it’s not worth the effort to explore.

Wrong.

An Art Deco surprise on the East Coast Greenway

I found this in a New Jersey park.

Sure, there’s Miami Beach, which is famous for its Art Deco buildings. But this is hidden in a New Jersey park, obscured by the veterans memorial.

Explore Burlington County’s new Rancocas Creek Greenway

How cool would it be to have this bike trail behind your neighborhood?

Burlington County formally opened the 4-mile Rancocas Creek Greenway in September. This trail stretches from Amico Island where the Rancocas Creek meets the Delaware River into Riverside, then across a bridge spanning the Rancocas Creek and into Delanco, then along the creek and past an over-55 neighborhood to beautiful Pennington Park.

How cool would it be to have this trail behind your neighborhood?
