This is one of the coolest elevated boardwalks you will ever see. And I mean elevated.
Eagle Tower in Peninsula State Park gives you a spectacular view of the Bay of Green Bay above the tree line, 253 feet above the ground.
To get there, you can climb about 100 steps … or you can walk 850 feet gradually uphill using this boardwalk. (Sorry, no bikes allowed.)

This is the day we reached the heart of Door County on this 6-day bike Wisconsin adventure. We found touristy small towns (I learned the Bay of Green Bay side means you get the sunsets, so it’s busier). We reached the tip of the peninsula at Gills Rock. (We skipped Northport since we wouldn’t be taking the ferry to Washington Island.) And we successfully stayed off Highway 42 most of the time; otherwise we took advantage of its wide shoulder to keep our distance from traffic. Though I have to say Wisconsin drivers are generally considerate. And with kids back in school, it’s less busy.
Yes, we caught a sunset too.
This also is the day I learned that Door County loves its cherries. Cherry salsa. Cherry chutney. Cherries and jalapenos, which one place calls a cherry bomb. Cherry horseradish. All tempting, but too much weight to carry on a bike for a few more days.
There’s also cherry chocolate frozen custard in Fish Creek, which I do stop for.
Then I realized that Door County is on the same latitude as Traverse City, Michigan, which also celebrates its cherries. Now it makes sense.
