I’m planning a bike ride on the Ohio to Erie Trail — got any tips?

Time to discover the 326 miles between Cleveland and Cincinnati.

I’m excited to bike the Ohio to Erie Trail in June …. or should I say Erie to Ohio?

This technically isn’t part of the Lawrence Hopewell Trail — but I love it

I’m now using the paved path to the Mount Rose parking lot to shave off a bit of biking on Carter Road

From the LHT, turn right at this sign onto the path to the parking lot.

There’s now a paved wide pathway from the Mount Rose Preserve parking lot off Carter Road in Hopewell Township, NJ, to the Mount Rose section of the Lawrence Hopewell Trail.

Good news: Another gap on the D&L Trail disappears

This is so much better than hauling your bike up stairs or cutting through a hotel parking lot to reach the D&L Trail.

When I first discovered the section of Pennsylvania’s D&L Trail that goes south to Bristol, the route would almost dead-end at an auto-repair shop in Morrisville. You had to creep around the side, then dash across Bridge Street/Lincoln Highway and finally haul your bike down a flight of stairs to reconnect with the canal towpath.

On the way back it was even worse, because you’d have to push your bike up those stairs.

I biked the 202 Parkway Trail — here’s what it’s like

This trail won’t win any beauty awards. But it’s a stress-free route through suburban sprawl in Bucks and Montgomery counties.

I’ll be honest: the 202 Parkway Trail in Pennsylvania’s Bucks and Montgomery counties is never going to win any beauty awards. That said, it blazes an almost stress-free path through suburban sprawl. That’s worth a lot.

2 days biking on the D&L Trail with some pinball wizards

The Delaware and Lehigh Trail is Pennsylvania’s other long-distance bike trail. Four of us headed out for two days of biking fun (and a few pinball games).

Hitting the D&L in mid-November with this trio.

The Delaware and Lehigh Trail is Pennsylvania’s other long-distance bike trail, much less known than the Great Allegheny Passage but almost as long now (and will be longer once it’s finished).

I’ve biked the southern half of the D&L, from Bristol (outside Philadelphia) to Bethlehem. With some sunny and warm days in the forecast for November, it was time to tackle another big chunk.

Day 4 on the Adige bike path: One giant climb before we end the ride in Verona

It’s no longer just downhill along the Adige bike path. Plus tips for your own DIY trip.

Remember the tunnel the train went through as we headed up to Bolzano and beyond? Now we find out how we will will get across that mountain — and it’s not with a bike tunnel.

Day 3 on the Adige bike path in Italy: Hey, we’re on the Eurovelo 7 route

Another 60 miles of bike path in Italy as we go from Bolzano to Rovereto.

This is the day we leave the Italian province of South Tyrol and the German speakers.

We’re still going downhill, but at an ever-slower rate. On this 60ish-mile day from Bolzano to Rovereto, we will lose about 60 meters in elevation, as much as we did over the 24ish miles between Merano and Bolzano.

Day 2 on the Adige bike path: 60 miles downhill from Malles to Bolzano via Merano

I told you we were biking downhill!

I’m in love with this bike path along the Adige river in northern Italy. And with the area.

Even before I had finished our first full day of biking, I was already contemplating a return visit.

Day 1 on Italy’s Adige bike path: We get flagged for speeding while biking downhill

We told everyone we are biking downhill for the better part of 180 miles along the Adige river in Italy.

We’ve been telling everyone that this bike trip in Italy is all about going downhill, from the mountains to the valley and Verona about 180 miles away.

After just 12 miles between Resia/Reschen and Malles/Mals (every town here has an Italian and a German name), we can say we weren’t kidding.

We’re going to bike from the Italian/Austrian/Swiss border to Verona

Is it the Alto Adige? The Etschradweg? So many names for the bike path from Malles (or Mals) to Verona in Italy.

Elevation map from Reschen/Resia to Bozen/Bolzano and beyond.
This looks great! As long as we stick to going downhill.

We’re planning a biking trip to the Dolomite mountains in northeastern Italy. The idea is to bike downhill on a bike path from as high up as we can get all the way to Verona.

We hope.
