Titusville to Key West

This — 2019 — is the year we make it to Key West — the southern-most point on the 3,000-mile East Coast Greenway.

This is my seventh Week A Year ride, and this time we will bike 410 miles over 7 days, raising money and awareness for this amazing project. (You can donate here. It’s tax-deductible, and just $25 gets you a yearlong membership in the East Coast Greenway Alliance).

As usual, we pick up where we ended the previous year. That would be Titusville, across the bay from Cape Canaveral. Unfortunately, it’s also a section that needs work — not enough trail!

Here’s the itinerary:

Nov. 9 — Titusville to Melbourne Beach, 41 miles (all on the road, but bike lanes and wide shoulders). Here’s the ride report.

Nov. 10 — Melbourne Beach to Hutchinson Island, 71 miles. A detour to the Navy SEAL museum? Dinner with a colleague? What the day was actually like.

Nov. 11 — Hutchinson Island to Delray Beach, 70 miles. Planning on dinner at what is supposed to be one of the best pizza places in the country. Ate the pizza — here’s what else we did.

Nov. 12 — Delray Beach to Miami Beach, 54 miles. The Atlantic Greenway in Miami Beach is one of the newest sections of the East Coast Greenway. Here’s the ride report.

Nov. 13 — Miami Beach to Key Largo, 74 miles. Yay, a third or more will be on trail like M Path and South Dade Trail! I want to check out John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo — time for snorkeling? Here’s what we actually did.

Nov. 14 — Key Largo to Marathon, 52 miles. Daily report here.

Nov. 15 — Marathon to Key West, 50 miles . Yes, this includes the Seven-Mile Bridge. Looks like we go through Curry Hammock State Park halfway through the day. And then there’s Bahia Honda State Park and another snorkeling option. Didn’t know there are wild chickens in Key West! Here’s the ride report.
