P’tit Train du Nord day 1: First poutine, then a 4-course gourmet dinner

35 miles on the P’tit Train du Nord from Mont Laurier to Nominingue.

The P’tit Train du Nord once transported skiers and others into the Laurentian mountains north of Montreal. Now it’s a popular 200-km (120-mile) rail trail between Mont Laurier and St. Jerome, plus a 32-km addition into the Montreal suburbs, and part of Quebec’s fabulous Route Verte network of bike paths.

An updated list of 7 great bike-trail overnights within easy reach of New Jersey

These bike overnights are all trail or mostly trails. Trips range from one night to closer to a week.

I started this list with 5 favorite DIY bike overnights using trails or mostly trails and (important for me) easily reached from New Jersey. Now it’s 2025, and my list has grown to 7.

More trails are coming, so biking within a day’s drive of New Jersey will only get better.

3 1/2 days biking along Quebec’s Route Verte

This was a trip to France without getting on a plane. We biked less than 150 miles over four days along Canada’s Route Verte in Quebec’s Eastern Townships and Monteregie sections.
